Answer #2:
Several times, getting faster each time.Answer #3:
It is a truly great novel, with breadth of storytelling and marvelous characterization. I became very fond of some characters, disliked others, and was moved by their fates. There is no way to tell whether you will like it: The material is there if you wish to take it up.Answer #4:
It is one of my favorite novels, though I would not call it "life-changing". The characters are some of the best that I have ever read in any work of fiction. The only con is that Tolstoy occasionally wanders away from the storyline to give some in-depth historical background and opinions, more so near the end. But, as Hugo did the same thing in "Les Miserables" (another of my favorite novels), then I imagine this was the accepted style at the time.It took me a few weeks to get through War and Peace, as I seldom have time just to sit down and read for extended periods. Still, if you enjoy great characterizations, then give this book a shot.
Answer #5:
If you're interested in watching a movie version of War & Peace...perhaps to help you with characterization....putting a face with a name....to help keep track of all the subplots, may I suggest you view the version starring Anthony Hopkins from 1972. They did a magnificent job in faithfully keeping with Tolstoy's storyline and offering the viewer some accomplished acting.** Powered by Yahoo Answers
